From next month, Gyeonggi Province will pay 100,000 won per capita to all residents of the second disaster basic income. Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myeong held a press conference on the 28th and said, “We concluded that it is desirable to pay basic disaster income before the Lunar New Year holiday.”
Governor Lee said, “In addition to respecting the quarantine concerns of some, including the Democratic Party leadership, as a result of a close analysis of the COVID-19 quarantine situation for 10 days, we decided that now is the bottom of the third pandemic. It is the right time to pay basic income,” he explained. He also said, “Yesterday I conveyed this meaning to the Democratic Party and the Prime Minister’s Office and asked for their understanding.”
Democratic Party President Lee Nak-yeon, who had been cautious about distributing disaster basic income in conflict with strengthened social distancing measures, said, “Gyeonggi Province gave a preliminary explanation to the Party’s Policy Committee.” Representative Lee added, “(Governor Lee) considers the Corona 19 situation and the party position.” Although CEO Lee did not reveal the conflict with Governor Lee, the ruling party was forced to consider the issue of equity between Gyeonggi Province and other local governments. The position of CEO Lee, who has already preoccupied the issue of basic disaster income, is expected to become more uncomfortable as he is being pushed down in his preference for the next presidential election.
The second basic disaster income in Gyeonggi Province is provided to all residents, registered foreigners, and 1,390,000 foreign nationals. From next month, you can apply in three ways: online application, on-site pickup, and on-site application service. Online applicants can apply from February 1st to March 14th from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.
You can apply by selecting one of the existing Gyeonggi local currency card or 12 credit cards on the market. However, unlike the first payment in April of last year, online application is subject to a five-part system based on the year of birth. Residents who are unable to apply online can apply by visiting the Eup, Myeon-dong Administrative Welfare Center in their address area from March 1st.
