Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myeong said on the 4th, in connection with the impeachment of the Busan High Court chief judge Im Seong-geun, “even if you are not subject to criminal punishment, if you violate the Constitution, the National Assembly should of course impeach it in the name of the people.”

Governor Lee wrote on his Facebook page that day, “Impeachment of judges is necessary.” According to the principle of separation of powers, judges exercise jurisdiction independently according to law and conscience, and judges are not dismissed except for impeachment of the National Assembly to ensure independence. “If a judge who must exercise power independently according to the law and conscience violates the law, and arbitrarily exercise jurisdiction according to politics or interests, not conscience, the judiciary, which is respected as the last bastion of maintaining order and protecting human rights, It could be a source of order destruction.”

Regarding the effectiveness of the impeachment due to the end of his term, Governor Lee said, “It is necessary to be aware that national surveillance and judgment under the Constitution are always in operation for arbitrary exercise of jurisdiction that abuses the independence of jurisdiction.” “Even if the impeachment trial is dismissed, He emphasized that the impeachment resolution itself may be a reason for refusal to register attorneys, so it is not without the practical benefit of the impeachment decision, and it will also help protect the trust of most good judges and the authority of the judiciary.”

Governor Lee added, “Since guaranteeing jurisdiction independence should not guarantee abuse of judicial power, I hope that the impeachment of judges by the National Assembly will become a solid foundation for true judicial independence.”

Meanwhile, the National Assembly is pursuing impeachment of the Democratic Party as the center, claiming that Judge Lim was involved in the Judiciary Nongdan and undermined the constitutional value.

161 members of the lawmakers were named as co-sponsors of Judge Lim’s impeachment prosecution, and it is expected to be voted on at the plenary session of the National Assembly this afternoon.
