Former marathoner Lee Bong-ju is giving regret to inform him of the recent condition of dystonia.

In TV Chosun’s’Star Documentary My Way’, which aired on the 15th, Lee Bong-ju was reported to rehabilitate after fighting a disease of muscular dystonia.

Lee Bong-ju surprised everyone by appearing with a badly bent back and shoulders. He said, “I had a bent back from the past, but my back gradually deteriorated. At some point, there was a problem somewhere in my body because I stood up radically. But I can’t find the cause.”

Lee Bong-ju was supported by his wife, while he was in a situation where he could barely stand up and walk with a wheelchair or a cane. Lee Bong-joo’s wife said, “In January 2020, my husband said,’I can’t spread my waist.’ My husband said,’I have to get an injection in my spine and check it.’ When I went to look at the body nearby, he said,’This is not a problem with your back, but with a nerve under your stomach.’ At that time, I knew there was a problem.”

Later, Lee Bong-ju was diagnosed with dystonia. Muscular dystonia is a neurological disease in which abnormal movements in which muscles are twisted or consistently take an abnormal posture regardless of their will.

Lee Bong-ju went on a daily hike with his wife for rehabilitation treatment. He climbed a mountain with a cane and said, “I come to the mountain almost every day. It’s a course I always run when I’m a player. Running at this speed takes about an hour, but walking at this speed takes three hours.”

Lee Bong-ju visited her mother and tried to reassure her that her waist was straightened. Lee Bong-ju’s mother said, “I still have my back straightened,” he said. “It was like that from last year. I haven’t answered the phone. I turned off the phone so I couldn’t call. Lee Bong-ju said, “I was afraid my mother would be worried. I’m sorry that my son bent around. I went home because I had to go home, and I’m worried from that time.”

Lee Bong-ju also recalled his father. Lee Bong-ju expressed his longing, saying, “(Father) died before the Boston Marathon in 2007. I wasn’t able to win at that time, but I think my father helped me.”
