LG Electronics unveiled a premium LCD TV lineup that increased the number of light sources by more than 10 times to increase the brightness and contrast ratio and applied its own high-color reproduction technology to enhance color reproduction capability. The newly introduced’QNED Mini LED TV’ is the top model of the existing LCD TV lineup, Nano Cell TV. LG Electronics is planning to actively target the premium TV market with a lineup ranging from OLED TVs, which are the top models, to QNED TVs and nano cell TVs. On the 29th, LG Electronics held an online technology briefing session with HE Research Center Director Nam Ho-jun, HE Marketing Communication Manager Lee Jeong-seok, and TV Product Planning Manager Paik Sun-pil, and released QNED TV, a new premium LCD TV.
QNED TV applied the new technology’Quantum Nano Cell Color Technology’ that utilizes quantum dot and nano cell-based technologies at the same time. The light emitted from the backlight passes through the nanocells and quantum dot materials to express the true color closer to the real world. An official from LG Electronics said, “By utilizing all of the representative high-color reproduction technologies used in the industry, we have raised the color expression power of LCD TV to the highest level.” , Quantum nanocell color technology exquisitely adjusts the wavelength of light to express full color,” he explained.
In addition, the new product applied a’mini LED’ to the backlight unit (BLU), which has a light source size of less than a tenth of that of an existing LCD TV. Thanks to its small size, about 30,000 light sources can be used, which is more than 10 times larger than that of conventional LCD TVs that use up to 2000 light sources based on 86-inch 8K (7680 × 4320) resolution. It is explained that more light sources can be placed in the same area, resulting in a brighter screen. In addition, it is explained that it has increased the color expression power by more than 10 times.
LG Electronics expects that the new product will significantly upgrade the shortcomings of LCD TVs that use backlights and liquid crystal displays, and broaden customer choices in the premium TV market. LG Electronics is planning to introduce major mini LED TV products at the’CES 2021′ held in January next year. It is planning to sell about 10 models, including 8K and 4K resolutions, mainly in super-large products to the global market.
