Launched’Green Hydrogen Forum’ to drive carbon neutrality

[월간수소경제 이종수 기자] The’Green Hydrogen Forum’ was launched to support clean energy policies such as the government’s carbon neutrality, the Green New Deal, and the hydrogen economy, and the activities are beginning in earnest.

The Hydrogen Convergence Alliance Promotion Team (Chairman Jae-do Moon), Korea Gas Corporation (Chairman Hee-bong Chae), Korea Gas Safety Corporation (Chairman Hae-jong Lim) and the Environment Foundation (Chairman Choi Yeol) participated in the ‘ It announced that it held the inaugural event of ‘2021 Green Hydrogen Forum’.

The Green Hydrogen Forum was launched as a follow-up measure by the 1st Hydrogen Economy Committee (July 2020) to promptly revitalize the industrial ecosystem and expand public acceptance.

The event, which was held in parallel with the online live broadcast, attended by Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun, Lee Hak-young, Chairman of the Small and Medium Venture Business Committee of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Lee Hee-beom, former Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and Choi Yeol, Chairman of the Environment Foundation, and more than 40 people from industry, academia, and research.

Prior to the inaugural general meeting of the Green Hydrogen Forum on that day, a pre-ceremony forum was held with the theme of’The role of the hydrogen economy to become a carbon-neutral society in 2050′. Lectures were given on carbon neutrality and the role of hydrogen economy, the current status of hydrogen energy through big data, global hydrogen mobility status and strategy, and Germany’s green hydrogen activation policy.

Through the following preliminary general meeting, the direction of the formation and operation of the forum was confirmed, and a total of 42 members, including co-chairpersons and members, were commissioned.

Former Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Lee Hee-beom and Chairman of the Environment Foundation Choi Yeol were elected co-chairs. The committee members were commissioned as experts in each field, including the National Assembly (5 people), research institutes (8 people), industry (13 people), NGO (1 people), academia (11 people), and advisory people (2 people) who participated as preparatory members.

In the future, the forum will discuss ways to promote carbon neutrality, such as expanding green hydrogen, to derive and propose private-level initiatives to revitalize the hydrogen economy.

Plenary meetings (twice a year) and working-level meetings (four times a year) are held, focusing on proposals for private opinions such as policy directions and strategies, suggestions for improvement directions for on-site difficulties (regulation, etc.), and support for establishing systems and foundations to enhance acceptance. Through this, policy evaluation and direction suggestions at the private level, implementation tasks for each field, and supplementation plans are planned.

Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun, who attended the inaugural general meeting, said, “As the final destination of the Korean hydrogen economy is’Green Hydrogen,’ the government will spur the realization of green hydrogen and will surely achieve a great transformation into a’hydrogen powerhouse Korea’.” We hope that all of you who have done so will become strong conductors with creative ideas and collective intelligence. We look forward to the establishment of the Green Hydrogen Forum as a new vitality for the development of the global hydrogen economy.”
