Industrial production last year decreased by 0.8% compared to 2019.

It was the first time since the statistics related to the year 2000 were compiled due to the impact of Corona 19 on our economy.

Although auto production was sluggish with a 10.2% decline, mining production increased 0.4% thanks to a 23.9% growth in booming semiconductors.

However, the face-to-face service industry that was hit by the coronavirus was contracted and industrial production was lowered last year.

The production of the service industry declined by 2.0%.

Retail sales, which show consumption trends, also declined 0.2%, the most since it fell 3.1% in 2003 during the card crisis.

On the other hand, last month, which was the last month, industrial production, consumption, and investment were on the rise, and the atmosphere of economic recovery continued.

The service industry’s production turned negative in four months, such as a 27.3% drop in the lodging and restaurant businesses due to the strengthening of distancing, but semiconductors became a relief pitcher this time as well.

Mining and industrial production increased from 0.3% in November to 3.7% last month, mainly for semiconductors, which helped to boost overall industrial production.

The cyclical fluctuation of the leading index for the economy, which predicts the direction of the economy, has also risen for seven consecutive months, and Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki and Minister of Strategy and Finance expressed expectations that a full-fledged’time of recovery’ will come.
