The English Premier League (EPL) Chelsea, who struck down coach Frank Lampard during a recent severe slump, has appointed former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Thomas Tuhel as the new command tower.
Chelsea announced on the club’s website on the 27th, “I signed a contract with Coach Tuhel. The contract period is 1 year and 6 months and there is a possibility of extension.”
Chelsea are ranked 10th out of 20 teams (29 points) in the regular league this season with 8 wins, 5 draws and 6 losses. As the sluggishness continued, the club hardened manager Frank Lampard on the 25th, and coach Tuhel filled the vacancy.
Coach Tuhel, who first entered the EPL as a manager, also became the first German coach to lead Chelsea.
Coach Tuhel started with the German 2nd Army team in Augsburg in 2007, and led the Bundesliga’s Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.
In the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons, he led PSG’s 2nd consecutive defeat in the French League, and in the 2019-2020 season, he also won the French Cup and the League Cup to achieve the treble. It was also the first in the history of the club to reach the final of the European Football Federation (UEFA) Champions League.
Coach Tuhel did not see much light as a player. The Bundesliga played back and forth between the second and third divisions, but retired early in 1998 at the age of 25 due to a knee injury.
Coach Tuhel said through the club, “I show my respect for what coach Lampard has done at Chelsea,” and “I want to meet the new team as soon as possible and compete in the most exciting football league.”
Coach Tuhel’s debut match is expected to be home to Wolverhampton on the 28th and EPL round 20.
