Hyundai Motor and Kia are also likely to be affected by the lack of automotive semiconductors. As Hyundai and Kia faced difficulties in procuring parts, they began adjusting their production plans.

According to the automobile industry on the 23rd, GM Korea started to cut production at Incheon Bupyeong 2 plant from the 8th, and Hyundai Motors and Kia also predicted that if the supply shortage of semiconductor parts continues, some of the operations will be inevitable. If production is discontinued by Hyundai Motor and Kia, the largest automakers in Korea, as well as Renault Samsung, it is expected that even suppliers will be affected in series.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are working directly with their partners to secure stocks of semiconductors for vehicles, but the supply and demand of some semiconductors is not smooth due to global production shortages.

There are usually around 100 automotive semiconductors required for one vehicle. Hyundai and Kia are receiving parts from Bosch, Continental, Mobase, Vitesco, and LG Electronics. From the beginning of this year when the global semiconductor shortage problem emerged, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are conducting weekly inventory checks and negotiating directly with semiconductor makers to secure supply.

At the same time, the production plan is being adjusted according to the supply and demand situation. Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are operating production lines centered on vehicle models that have vehicle semiconductor stocks, and general purpose semiconductors are producing vehicles by putting them in vehicle parts that are almost out of stock. Global car makers have not been able to produce vehicles smoothly since the beginning of this year due to unstable supply and demand for automotive semiconductors. Volkswagen stopped its Emden plant in Germany for two weeks last month, and started production cuts this month. Ford also shut down two factories in Mexico and Saarlouis in Germany in January, and GM stopped producing vehicles at some factories in the United States, Canada and Mexico on the 8th.
