Korea’s first biogas-utilizing hydrogen fusion charging station to enter Chungbuk

(Sisa Mirae News) Chungbuk-do announced that in May this year, a hydrogen fusion charging station using biogas will be built near the Food Bio Energy Center in Bongbang-dong, Chungju.

This project was selected as a public offering project by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in May 2019, and is the first on-site hydrogen charging station using biogas in Korea to be completed after two years of technological development with a total project cost of 12.19 billion won, including government funding of 9.5 billion won.

Hydrogen Convergence Charging Station using biogas is a project involving Chungbuk-do, Chungju-si, Advanced Technology Research Institute, and 5 other institutions. Hydrogen is extracted from biogas generated at the Food and Beverage Bioenergy Center in Chungju City, purified into 99.995% or more of high-purity hydrogen. It can be used as fuel.

With this project, Chungcheongbuk-do will secure 500kg of green hydrogen production facilities a day for the first time in Korea. It plans to supply hydrogen at a lower price to hydrogen charging stations built in the province before the hydrogen production base is fully built in Chungbuk.

It is expected that the two tasks of efficient use of resources discarded through the hydrogen fusion charging station and early entry into the hydrogen society will be solved at the same time.

Chungbuk-do is actively supplying hydrogen cars and hydrogen charging stations to become the center of the hydrogen industry, the core of the future economy, and plans to supply more than 12 hydrogen charging stations in the province by the end of ’21.

This is the nation’s highest level of available hydrogen charging stations compared to the number of hydrogen vehicles supplied in Chungbuk Province (323 as of November 20).

Chungcheongbuk-do Energy Manager Kim Hyung-nyeon will continue to actively support the research and development of related companies to produce hydrogen in an eco-friendly and inexpensive way, and Chungcheongbuk-do takes the lead in creating a hydrogen energy life cycle ecosystem in order to popularize hydrogen energy that reduces greenhouse gases and protects the environment. He said he would try to do it.
