Chicken was right anywhere in the world. The Korean food that foreign locals love most (love the most) was’Korean-style chicken’.

According to the results of the ‘2020 Overseas Korean Consumer Survey’ released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 7th, Korean chicken (13.3%) was the most preferred Korean food by foreigners last year. ‘Kimchi (11.9%)’ and’Bibimbap (10.3%)’ took the second and third place. This is the result of an online survey of 8,000 locals in 16 major cities around the world, including Beijing, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, and Rome from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in August-September last year.

On the contrary, many respondents said that the food that locals do not prefer is’Korean alcohol (14.1%)’. Kimchi, which was on the preferred menu, was also selected by 9.5% of respondents from the non-preferred menu.

Those who have eaten Korean food answered that they eat kimchi (33.6%) most often. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food said, “It seems that the number of people eating kimchi has increased as interest in health has increased due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).”

In North and Central America, bulgogi (12.8%) was the most popular. Europeans liked’bibimbap (12.6%)’ most. In Northeast Asia,’grilled pork belly (11.6%)’, and in Southeast Asia,’Kimchi (14.9%)’.

In this survey, 57.4% of respondents said they know Korean food. 81.3% of respondents said they were’satisfied’ with Korean food. Respondents perceived Korean food as’spicy (32.5%)’,’unique and exotic (32.4%)’,’flavored (31.4%)’,’popular (29%)’,’a variety of side dishes (28.8%)’ did.

In Asian regions such as China and Indonesia, both the awareness and satisfaction of Korean food were high in many cases. Japan (Tokyo) ranked at the bottom of the level of awareness and satisfaction. In the United Kingdom (London) and Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Korean food recognition was low, but satisfaction was high.

Kim Jong-gu, Food Industry Policy Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, said, “We will use the Korean Wave to promote a youthful and refined image in regions such as Japan, where Korean food has a low level of awareness and satisfaction. I will stand up and apply.”
