Korea South-East Power takes the lead in reducing GHG emissions in marine ecosystems through expanding blue carbon

KOEN↔Incheon City Blue Carbon Expansion and Business Agreement for Marine Ecosystem Conservation

Korea Construction News Reporter Lim Seong-ji = Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd., on March 19 at Incheon City Hall meeting room, attended by Southeast Power’s Technical Safety Headquarters Jeong Gwang-sung and Incheon City’s Cho Taek-sang, the deputy mayor of the balanced power generation. ‘Has been concluded.

Blue carbon refers to carbon that is absorbed by marine ecosystems such as plants and sediments living in coastal areas such as tidal flats, algae, and salt plants. It is attracting attention as a major means of strengthening the carbon absorption function of nature and ecology, such as forests, tidal flats, and wetlands, which is one of the five basic directions of the government’s 2050 carbon neutral strategy in Korea announced in December last year.

This agreement is the first case in Korea where local governments and power generation companies work together to expand blue carbon. The two organizations cooperate with the management of marine ecosystems using blue carbon and promotion of government projects, and jointly use the blue carbon expansion project using marine organisms as a pilot project. It will be promoted.

Kwang-sung Chung, head of the Korea South-East Power Technology and Safety Headquarters said, “Through this agreement, we will do our best to become a meaningful first step toward national carbon neutrality based on our experience in monitoring the marine environment of Southeast Power and the marine ecosystem conservation technology possessed by Incheon City.” .

Meanwhile, Southeast Power Corp. announced its goal of ‘2050 KOEN carbon neutrality’ for the first time in a Korean company at a press conference of’Resolution Calling for Emergency Response to Climate Crisis’ hosted by the National Assembly Climate Change Forum in July of last year, including biofuel conversion and rapid expansion of new and renewable energy. It is playing a leading role in achieving ‘2050 Korea’s carbon neutrality’.
