Korea overcomes the aftermath of Corona 19 and retakes 5th place in automobile production in 5 years

[이데일리 송승현 기자] Despite the aftermath of Corona 19 last year, Korean automobile production recaptured the world’s fifth place in five years.

According to the Korea Automobile Industry Association (KAMA) survey on the 8th,’The Top 10 Automobile Production Status in 2020′, Korea recaptured the 5th place in India after 2016, after 5 years.

Last year, world auto production showed a significant decline of 15.5%, and the top 10 automakers were △China △U.S. △Japan △Germany △Korea △India △Mexico △Spain △Brazil △Russia.

In the aftermath of Corona 19, all of the first to fourth-largest producers had very little production. Specifically, it decreased by 2.0% in China, 19.0% in the US, 16.7% in Japan, and 24.7% in Germany. Korea also decreased by 11.2%, but the decline was relatively small, rising from 7th in 2019 to 5th in 2020.

In particular, Korea’s overseas sales fell 21.4% to 1.89 million units due to the aftermath of Corona 19, but domestic sales of domestic cars increased 4.7% to 1.61 million units due to strong domestic demand.

A KAMA official said, “Our recapture of the 5th place is mainly due to production disruptions in India and Mexico caused by Corona 19.” It is also caused by sudden changes.”

KAMA Chairman Chung Man-ki said, “Innovative efforts such as smart, high-end, and electrified need to be further strengthened (despite the recapture of Korea’s fifth largest automobile production). Support policies should be continuously expanded. In addition, shareholders and management-level workers should accumulate experience in cooperation based on the perception that they are one team.”
