The Korea Land Information Corporation (formerly Korea Intellectual Property Corporation, LX), an affiliate of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, announced on the 22nd that it plans to proceed with legal review such as an application for temporary injunction against use for the use of the new holding company LX Holdings, a new holding company of LG Group adviser Koo Bon-joon.
This is because the LX Board of Directors Steering Committee ordered that the LG Group’s newly established holding company be held on the 19th in relation to the company’s name as LX (LX Holdings) without prior consultation and compulsory for a trademark application. The director of LX said, “The newly established holding company of advisor Koo Bon-joon should not officially apologize for a trademark application that has been promoted through one-way traffic using the superior recognition of large corporations and should not be considered as an agenda at the general shareholders’ meeting.” I will come up with a legal plan,” he said.
LX claims that LX is the only national territorial information specialized agency in Korea that conducts intellectual and spatial information projects, and that it has established a firm understanding and distinction. LX’s board of directors argues that if LX Holdings uses the same name as KDHC, it is a free ride to the brand value LX has built up. Furthermore, they are concerned that the credibility and public confidence of public institutions may decline and the public’s confusion may increase.
The KTO has invested 33.2 billion won over the past 10 years to promote the LX (Land eXpert, people who know the country best) branding business. In 2012, the declaration ceremony was held with new CI (company image) and BI (brand image), and signs and outdoor advertisements of 12 regional headquarters and 169 branches were replaced. In addition to TV, radio, and newspaper advertisements, KDHC’s core business was promoted through its homepage, YouTube, and SNS channels to gain recognition.

An official from LX said, “The number of reports that have been introduced to the media under the brand LX has already exceeded 43,000,” he said. “Especially in the case of ODA projects that transfer advanced technology and know-how to developing countries, we cooperate with the government, the World Bank, and the United Nations. It is a national project that has high misunderstandings and confusion with LG, which hinders publicity.”
