Korea Gas Safety Corporation holds the first meeting of the team in charge of building hydrogen safety infrastructure (TFT)

On the 3rd, Korea Gas Safety Corporation formed a hydrogen safety infrastructure construction task force (TFT) and held a kick-off meeting.

To improve the safety of hydrogen products, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation, an agency in charge of hydrogen safety, formed a hydrogen safety infrastructure construction task force (TFT) under the supervision of the Hydrogen Safety Technology Institute under the KTO on the 3rd and held a kick-off meeting.

This TFT is attended by Yeon-jae Lee, safety management director of Gas Safety Corporation and 36 employees from nine internal departments, and external advisory services are provided by Chungcheongbuk-do, Hyundai Motor Company, and Korea Transportation Safety Authority.

At the meeting that day, the detailed construction schedule and execution plan of the hydrogen product inspection support center and the hydrogen bus/charging station test and evaluation center were reviewed. In addition, general discussions were held for establishing a hydrogen safety infrastructure, including establishment and amendment of the inspection standards for hydrogen products, plans to establish inspection processes, and plans to build large-scale ultra-high pressure hydrogen container test facilities.

The Hydrogen Safety Infrastructure TFT is in charge of establishing a hydrogen product inspection support center that performs safety management of hydrogen products, and a hydrogen bus and charging station test and evaluation center that evaluates the safety performance of large hydrogen bus (commercial vehicle) parts and hydrogen charging station parts.

The Hydrogen Product Inspection Support Center is a testing laboratory that performs safety inspection on four types of hydrogen products according to the enactment of the Hydrogen Act, such as mobile and stationary fuel cells, water electrolysis facilities, and hydrogen extraction facilities.

The hydrogen bus/charging station test and evaluation center is a test laboratory that performs testing on containers and parts mounted on large hydrogen vehicles such as hydrogen buses, and on parts of hydrogen charging stations.

The site of the inspection support center is currently under public offering, and the site of the test and evaluation center for hydrogen bus and charging station parts is expected to be built in Seongbon Industrial Complex, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk. On February 4, the KTO signed a business agreement with Eumseong-gun for the hydrogen bus test and evaluation center.

With this TFT as an organization, the KTO plans to establish product development and inspection standards for hydrogen products inspection and hydrogen bus parts according to the implementation of the hydrogen law through rapid construction of hydrogen safety infrastructure. In addition, it plans to actively carry out work to expand the safety of hydrogen products, such as expanding inspection items for parts of hydrogen charging stations.

Hae-jong Lim, President of Gas Safety Corporation, said, “We will make efforts to successfully promote the hydrogen industry ecosystem promoted by the government, such as the roadmap for activating the hydrogen economy,” and said, “We will proceed with the establishment of hydrogen safety infrastructure more systematically and with a sense of speed through this TFT.” Told.
