[천지일보=송해인 기자] On the 3rd, Korea Gas Corporation announced on the 3rd that it has signed an MOU for cooperation with Thai power generation companies TPIPP (Thai Petrochemical Industry Polene Power) and Korea Western Power.
The Songkhla GTP project is a large-scale project that procures LNG and builds terminals and power plants in the Songkhla region in southern Thailand. In 2016, as the Thai government designated this area as a special economic zone, TPIPP proposed a joint project development with the KOGAS.
With this agreement, KOGAS plans to take charge of LNG procurement and terminal construction and operation by utilizing the experience and know-how accumulated in domestic and overseas LNG business, and to lead financial procurement along with Western Power. In addition, TPIPP will play the role of a leader such as local licensing and participate in business operation.
In the future, KOGAS plans to create a new source of revenue by securing stable new overseas LNG demand sources, while actively supporting domestic companies to advance into related fields such as construction and finance, thereby creating a place for economic revitalization and win-win cooperation.
An official of the Korea Gas Corporation said, “With this Songkhla project in Thailand, we will focus on building a bridgehead to expand entry into the GTP market in emerging overseas countries.”
Meanwhile, TPIPP is a subsidiary of TPI Group that operates petrochemical plants, manufactures and sells construction materials, and promotes energy business, and operates a power plant with a total capacity of 440 MW in Thailand.
