[천지일보=김정자 기자] Korea District Heating Corporation (CEO Hwang Chang-hwa) announced on the 25th that it has signed a joint cooperation agreement with Korea University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and Live Financial Co., Ltd. for’CO2 reduction using microalgae and commercialization of expensive materials’.
Using microalgae CCUS (carbon capture and use) technology processes carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from power plants or district heating heat sources using the photosynthetic action of microalgae (microorganisms), It is an eco-friendly low-carbon technology that produces feed, biodiesel, etc.
The KTO is expected to actively implement the government’s 2050 Carbon Neutral and Green New Deal policies as well as promote innovative eco-friendly greenhouse gas projects by cooperating with academia and pharmaceutical industries to commercialize this technology.
To this end, the KTO supports microalgae optical culture infrastructure facilities, biomass supply, and related technology development. Korea University will support the original technology of microalgae light culture and the production of derived biomass, and Live Financial Co., Ltd. will provide technical support such as supply and demand of all produced biomass and on-site light culture.
A construction official said, “If the eco-friendly business model promoted through this agreement proceeds smoothly, the basis for a GHG reduction business model that produces high-value materials as well as drastic CO2 reduction will be established.”
