U.S. Pro Football (NFL) Atlanta Falcons kicker Koo Young-hoe (26) is the first Korean to compete in the Pro Ball (All-Star).

1st in the All-Star Fan Vote Kicker Category

Koo Young-hoe took first place in the National Football Conference (NFC) kicker category in the professional ball fan vote announced by the NFL secretariat on the 22nd (Korean time). It received a total of 20,1903 votes. Koo Young-hoe is the first Korean player to play in the professional ball.

Koo Young-hoe enjoyed the double slope of being ranked No. 1 in the kicker category with more votes than Rodrigo Blankenship (Indianapolis Colts, 15,8131 votes), which ranked No. 1 at the American Football Conference (AFC). Koo Young-hoe was selected as the’Player of the Month’ in November of this season’s NFC special team. Unfortunately, you can’t see Koo Young-hoe actually going around the ground. This season’s Pro Ball was canceled in the aftermath of Corona 19. Instead, it opens as an online game.

The story of Koo Young-hoe’s NFL settlement is a reverse drama. Born in Seoul, he immigrated to New Jersey, USA at the age of 12. He dreamed of becoming a soccer player in Korea. When he was in junior high school, he started playing American football with the recommendation of friends who saw his shooting skills. The NFL said, “At the time, Benjamin Franklin Middle School coach said,’American football has your future. “I can get a scholarship.” He went on to Georgia Southern University. There, he was also recognized for his skills, such as being nominated for the’Lou Groza Award’ (University’s Best Kicker Award).

In September 2017, he was the first Korean to step on the NFL stage wearing a LA Chargers uniform. But the joy was for a while. The NFL wall, lined with flying meat players, was high. He came out in four games in the first season, failed three of the field goals six times, and was released after a month. He endured the pain and started from the bottom up. He laid the groundwork for a re-challenge in the NFL in the new Atlanta Legend, an amateur league. They developed muscle strength and studied the shooting angle. I steadily participated in the tests of the NFL club. Finally, in October last year, I took a chance again in Atlanta. After returning to the NFL after two years, he made 23 out of 26 field goal attempts (88.5%) in eight games last season and stood as a top kicker.
