The initial start-up package is a business that supports start-up commercialization programs such as item verification and investment promotion company briefings, along with commercialization funds (up to KRW 100 million) for prototype production and marketing for early start-up companies within three years of start-up with promising start-up items. . Konkuk University has been selected as a supervisory institution since 2014 and is carrying out this project.

In this evaluation, Konkuk University presented a founding vision of’green (eco-friendly)-bio-leading start-up platform’ by consolidating the university’s green field capabilities and reinforcing the existing bio field research capabilities. Konkuk University, which has secured a budget of 2.41 billion won while receiving the best grade, plans to provide customized support to maximize the performance of corporate sales, employment, and investment attraction.

◇ Funding for commercialization of 12 green (eco-friendly) strategic fields and 14 general fields

Konkuk University supported 20 start-up companies through the initial start-up package project in 2020. It has operated an initial market entry strategy setting program and an overseas expansion strategy establishment program to reinforce the competencies required in the early stages of business, including up to KRW 100 million in commercialization funding. Meanwhile, Konkuk University received a good response by holding Korea’s first Animal Hackathon, Bio Startup Forum, and KU Acceleration Program to support the growth of promising local start-ups.

Konkuk University will also select a total of 26 founders through the initial start-up package this year to support commercialization funds and programs for corporate growth. In particular, starting this year, it is planning to select 12 early start-up companies in the green strategy field to establish a green (eco-friendly)-bio leading startup platform. Companies with innovative life-style startup items to minimize pollutants such as carbon reduction, green IT, new materials, and environmental protection can apply in strategic fields.
