This award is the world’s most prestigious award in the energy sector, and this year’s construction sector was won in competition with strong finalists such as NASA and CS Energy in Australia.
Midbu Power has made the power plant underground and opened the ground as a park to residents. With the innovative idea of creating the abolished Seoul Thermal Power Plants 4 and 5 as creative spaces for cultural artists, the world’s first 800 ㎿ class underground complex power plant project was built.
Beginning in June 2013, large-scale civil works for underground power plant construction and 750km of water transportation for transport of ultra-large power generation facilities to the city center were carried out. In order to operate a safe underground power plant, construction was completed in November 2019 by reinforcing fire, gas, and ventilation-related facilities two to three times the standard. Currently, the Seoul Power Plant headquarters of Jungbu Power produces electricity and heating heat underground. The ground park has completed the first phase of construction, and the abolished power plant will be reborn as a new cultural and art space like the Pompidou Center in France.
CEO Park Hyeong-gu said, “I am proud of being recognized by the world for the passion and technological prowess of Midbu Power,” and “We will do our best to lead the energy industry as a clean energy leader that raises the value of life through endless challenges and innovations.” Said.
