Kiwoom signs contract with new outsider David Freitas

[스포츠월드=최원영 기자] On the 5th, professional baseball Kiwoom Heroes (CEO Heo Hong) signed a contract with a new foreign hitter David Freitas (32) for a total of $600,000, including an annual salary of $550,000 and an option of $50,000.

U.S. native David Freitas was nominated for the Washington Nationals in the 15th round of the major league rookie draft in 2010, and made his first major league debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2017. Since then, he has worked in Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers.

David Freitas, who has a sturdy physique of 188cm tall and 113kg in weight, can handle first baseman and catcher, and is an offensive hitter with sophistication and long hitting power. He played 10 seasons in the minor leagues and played 802 matches, hitting 808 hits, 73 homers, 440 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.812 and batting average of 0.289.

In particular, in the 2019 minor league (AAA), he recorded 125 hits, 12 home runs, 47 walks, 55 strikeouts, and an OPS of 1.022. He also ranked first in batting average (0.381) and on-base percentage (0.461). Last year, the minor league was canceled in the aftermath of Corona 19, so there is no history of participating in the game, but it has been included in the 40-player roster all the time, and has maintained a sense of practice through training and practice matches in his team.

From next week, David Freitas is planning to conduct training with more than 20 agent players at the ballpark in Scottsdale, Arizona, provided by his agency, PSI Sports Management. The club plans to receive training videos every day before entering Korea and continuously monitor the players’ status.

General Manager Ko Hyeong-wook “Even if it took time, we tried hard to recruit players that were essential to our team. I wanted a player with a long hitting tool that could inspire vitality through an active attack in the center line. David Freitas, who was recruited this time, is expected to perform well as he possesses power and sophistication. The club will not spare any support so that the players can adjust to life in Korea and the KBO League well.”

David Freitas comes to Korea after completing administrative procedures such as visa issuance. After entering the country, they will self-isolate and join the squad.
