Born in Gongju City, Chungcheongnam-do and graduated from Gongju High School and Korea University, new coach Hong made his professional debut at Hanwha Eagles in 1996 and played an active part in Doosan Bears and Hyundai Unicorns until 2007.
After retiring from active duty, he worked as a Heroes Power Analyst in 2008, and started a full-fledged leadership career as a defensive coach in the first army in 2009, and last year served as a chief coach.
In the club, new coach Hong has been working as the club’s coach for 12 years, showing excellent abilities in player development, systematic data analysis and utilization. In particular, they were trusted and respected within the squad, so they were judged to be the right people to build strong teamwork.
New coach Hong said, “Thank you for the team that gave me the opportunity, and on the other hand, I feel a heavy responsibility. Kiwoom Heroes does its best to help the team grow to the next level by actively communicating with good players, coaches, and systems. I will do it,” he said.
New coach Hong Won-ki said, “(The goal) is to win the Korean series. Last season, fans couldn’t visit the ballpark with’Corona 19′. Both fans and we were very disappointed. I want to be with fans until the end of the season. On the ground, we will show passionate baseball, and we want to make a good result for the last game of the season and sing supporters with our fans.”
I also emphasized two things I would like to emphasize specifically for the players.
He said, “I hope that you will set clear goals on the ground and do your best to achieve them. I also want you to show a responsible behavior as a professional baseball player. These two will continue to be ordered from players during my future managerial term. “There seems to be no change in the big frame. I will continue to worry, but I will prepare for the spring camp by setting up the coaching staff in a short time in consultation with the club.”
Regarding the philosophy of baseball, he said, “I will take good care of my team so that the players can show the best performance on the ground in the best condition. I will not give up and play baseball that shows passion until the game is over.”
Kiwoom Heroes appointed Ko Hyeong-wook, managing director of Scouting as the new general manager. It was determined that the new manager, who was a former player and had extensive experience in the field and the front desk, could play a role in bridging the field.
In addition, since he has been with the new coach for a long time, the new general manager is expected to create the best synergy with the new coach Hong Won-ki.
