Ambassador Jang Jun also posted a photo holding a bag of kimchi while wearing an apron and sanitary gloves, and a photo with a thumb raised while introducing kimchi. Ambassador Jang Jun’s Twitter account, where the photo was posted, is marked with a certification mark of China government account.
When an article promoting kimchi was suddenly posted on the Twitter of Ambassador Jang Jun, who has been used as a window to promote China’s diplomatic achievements, netizens said, “Kimchi is a traditional Korean food.” I am happy” and other articles that emphasize that kimchi is Korean food are posted one after another.
This is not the first time that China has caused controversy over kimchi. On the 9th, Chinese YouTuber Ritsuchi, who had 14 million subscribers, posted a video of kimchi making, and tagged’traditional Chinese cuisine’ (#ChineseCuisine) and’Chinese food’ (#ChineseFood).
Afterwards, Korean netizens commented on the video, such as “Kimchi is Korean,” “Don’t cross the line” “The Chinese are promoting Korean food”, but Ritsuchi has not corrected the content. The video recorded more than 4 million views in three days of upload.
Earlier, China’s official media report said that Pao Chai, a salted vegetable food from Sichuan, was approved by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in November last year, and that South Korea, the originator of kimchi, was humiliated.
Accordingly, the Korean government refuted false reports, saying that the Kimchi food standard was set as an international standard by the UN International Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) International Food Standards Committee (CODEX, Codex) in 2001.
