A controversial Chinese YouTuber uploaded a video of playing kimchi and made it to the Guinness Book of Records.
According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 3rd, YouTuber Lizqi (李子柒) was listed in the Guinness Book of Records with “the account with the most subscribers to YouTube’s Chinese channel.” Lizchi’s subscribers exceeded 14.2 million as of 8:40 pm on the 3rd.

Guinness said, “The poetic and idyllic lifestyle and traditional Chinese culture fascinated fans around the world, and many YouTube viewers praised it,” he said. “With her videos, the culture is spreading further.”

Lizqi, who started YouTube in 2017, gained popularity as she lived with her grandmother in the countryside of Sichuan Province and captured her life in the quiet Chinese countryside in a beautiful way.

On the other hand, on the 9th of last month, Lizchi posted a video titled’Life of Nothing’ on her YouTube channel, which caused a great controversy among Korean and Chinese netizens. In the video, Lizchi added hashtags such as’Chinese food’ and’Chinese food’ despite filming the process of making Korean kimchi. Korean netizens who were exposed to the video at the time criticized that it was not once or twice that China claimed kimchi as their own food.
