Kim Jong-in, head of the People’s Power Emergency Response Committee, visited Busan and said, “We will actively support the new construction of Gadeokdo Island and make efforts to ensure that the Gadeokdo New Airport Special Act is handled under the agreement of the opposition parties.” For the first time, the People’s Strength leadership officially approved the construction of a new airport on Gadeok Island. Chairman Kim said at the on-site non-commissioning meeting held at the Power of the People in Busan City Hall on the morning of the 1st, “The power of the people will actively support the construction of the new airport on Gadeokdo Island and will endeavor to deal with the Special Act on the Construction of the New Airport on Gadeokdo under the agreement of the opposition parties. “The construction of a new airport on Gadukdo Island will bring enormous employment effects and economic effects,” he said. “We will foster it as a smart airport with global competitiveness.” “We will systematically support legal and institutional arrangements for an environment in which domestic technology and private capital are largely injected,” he added.
Chairman Kim also revealed a plan that “we will actively review the construction of a Korean-Japanese submarine tunnel connecting Gadeokdo and Kyushu, Japan.” He added, “It is a project that is expected to have a tremendous economic effect with a production additional effect of 54.5 trillion won and an employment induction effect of 450,000 people with a much smaller fiscal burden than Japan.”
Chairman Kim said, “We will closely connect the railroads and highways, connect the inland railroads between the two Koreas to Gadeokdo, and promote the construction of the Busan New Port-Gimhae Port Expressway and the Sasang-Haeundae Expressway.”
