Kim Gwang-hyun (33, St. Louis) showed excitement ahead of his first appearance in the 2021 season.

Kim Kwang-hyun will start the 2021 Major League (MLB) Philadelphia game to be held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at 5 am on the 18th. Kim Gwang-hyun had back pain during the demonstration game, and in the meantime, he was in normal condition through rehabilitation. Through a video interview on the 17th, a day before the debut, he shared his feelings ahead of his first sortie.

Kim Kwang-hyun stands on the mound in front of the audience for the first time after advancing to the MLB stage. “It’s not 100% of the capacity, but I’m really fortunate that there are fans in the audience. It’s exciting. It’s going to be fun,” said Kim Gwang-hyun. He added, “As my body got better and better, the thought of’I want to get up to the mound quickly and show me what I’m throwing’ got stronger.”

The first starting point is to play a lot of innings with aggressive pitching. “Since I’ve been missing (in the starting rotation) so far, I want to throw more innings. I will throw as many innings as possible while reducing the number of pitches per at-bat.” He emphasized that “you must accumulate the know-how to throw many innings with a small number of pitches,” he expressed his willingness to digest as many innings as possible.

There is also a different experience ahead. Last year, the National League also operated a designated hitter system. This is to prevent injury to the pitcher. This year, the pitcher will also be at bat. Kim Gwang-hyun laughed, saying, “I am looking forward to standing at the plate. If there are no runners, I will swing with confidence.” Kim Gwang-hyun has been at bat three times in his career in the KBO League.
