Kia aims to leap to the’top tier’ of the global electric vehicle market with a new brand identity. It is noteworthy whether it will be able to create a double gust with Hyundai Motor’s next-generation electric car’Ioniq 5′, which continues to sell out at home and abroad.

‘High-tech’ design like the latest electronic devices

The Kia EV6 overall stands out for its future-oriented image. A typical example is the application of the’Digital Tiger Face’ grill that reinterprets the’Tiger nose (tiger nose)’, a symbol of Kia’s design. The radiator grille is designed to be thin and long to emphasize the refined impression. The daytime running lights connected to the grill utilize a’moving light pattern’ inspired by electronic pixels. The LED (Light Emitting Diode) cluster lamp on the rear of the vehicle also has a unique EV6 pattern that is used as a medium to complete the future-oriented design.

The unique spatiality of electric vehicles also stands out. Kia designed the EV6’s interior floor flat based on the Hyundai Motor Group’s electric vehicle platform’E-GMP’. Air intakes are placed under the bumper under the grill to allow air to flow to the flat floor of the room and minimize air resistance.

In the driver’s seat, a’panoramic curved display’ that extends from the dashboard to the center console was placed to make the interior of the vehicle look wider. The console has a design that seems to be floating in the center and has a touch button. Infotainment (a device that provides in-vehicle information and entertainment), an air conditioning switch button, and heated seat and steering wheel buttons are all implemented in a touch method. An official from Kia explained, “We emphasized innovative images such as the latest electronic devices by minimizing the central space in the room.”

EV6 is known to have strong performances such as 500km or more of driving distance when charged once, 100km of driving distance when charging for 4 minutes, and 3 seconds of zero-back (the time it takes to reach 100km/h from a standstill). It plans to support’HDA2′ technology, which is the second stage of autonomous driving technology. Kia will disclose specific specifications through an online event in the last week of this month. The release is coming July. The EV6’s rival models are expected to be Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 and Tesla’s Model Y.

“Leading the market with a new design philosophy”

Kia also unveiled a new design philosophy,’Operit United’. It is an extension of Kia’s slogan and brand direction change earlier this year by removing’automobile’ from its mission. It emphasized the future-oriented design through contrasting shape, composition, and color. The’dynamic character’ line applied to the side of the EV6 is a representative example. The dynamic character line connects the streamlined design at the top of the vehicle and the straight design at the bottom.

Starting with the EV6, Kia is actively targeting the electric vehicle market. To emphasize this will, the name of the exclusive electric vehicle lineup was also set to’EV + number’. It expresses the will to be reborn as a brand representing this market by using’EV’, a common noun for electric vehicles. By 2026, Kia plans to introduce 7 types of exclusive platform electric vehicles and 4 types of electric vehicles derived from existing models.

Karim Habib, Managing Director of Kia Design, said, “Our goal is to let customers experience original and creative pleasure through Kia’s products.” said.
