Kia unveiled the interior design of the K8 on the 4th.
The interior of the K8, which was unveiled on this day, has a three-spoke steering wheel with the new Kia logo.
If you look closely at this steering wheel, there are ADAS execution buttons on the left that can perform adaptive cruise control and lane maintenance assistance. It broke the conventional practice of Hyundai-Kia Motors, which had been placed on the right.
On the right side of the K8 steering wheel are voice recognition and hands-free call buttons.
Kia explained that the open design without the top cover and the curvature optimized for the driver’s seat minimizes the driver’s gaze movement and helps safe driving.
Kia lowered the dashboard height of the K8 by about 20mm and optimized the left and right A-pillar angles and the size of the rearview mirror module. In addition, the junction of the outside mirror was lowered from the window to the door, and a triangular window (delta glass) was added in its place.
Wood grain, metal, and leather are added to the interior of the center fascia, center console, and door trim.
In particular, diamond patterns and mood lighting were added to the central part in front of the passenger seat and the doors on both sides of the first row. Kia explained that’Star Cloud Lighting’ was completed indoors as well as exterior.
The K8’s control system is a black glossy (black high-gloss) material.
Kia is the first to apply a touch-type switching control system to the K8 that can be operated by integrating an infotainment system and an air conditioning system.
The infotainment/air conditioning switching control system can be switched between the two systems with a centrally located button. In addition to buttons that require intuitive operation while driving, such as media volume and room temperature, all buttons are applied by a touch method, minimizing the space in the center of the room and realizing an innovative image like the latest electronic devices.
The center console is equipped with an electronic shift dial (SBW, Shift by wire) that adds a refined feel with indirect lighting, and it gradually rises to make it easier to reach as it moves away from the driver’s body.
