[일렉트릭파워 이재용 기자] On March 25, KEPCO (President Jong-gap Kim) signed an MOU between Jeju City and SK Telecom to provide’big data-based social safety net service’ at Jeju City Hall.

The signing of the MOU is to provide a single-person household safety care service to Jeju citizens in collaboration with KEPCO and SK Telecom to prevent lone death in Jeju-si.

The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Tae-yong, head of KEPCO Digital Transformation Department, An Dong-woo, Mayor of Jeju, and Choi Nak-hoon, CO of SK Telecom Smart Factory.

The’single-person safety care service’ is a service that analyzes electricity usage patterns with artificial intelligence and integrates them with communication data to inform local government welfare managers of signs of safety abnormalities in single-person households.

For example, when the amount of electric power usage decreases sharply differently than usual, and there is no cell phone call volume or number of text messages at all, it can be predicted that there is something wrong with the person, so you can take action quickly.

Through this MOU, KEPCO and SK Telecom plan to collect power data and communication data, establish a homepage, and recruit service beneficiaries to Jeju City and secure personal information agreements.

KEPCO started the Usan-dong demonstration project in Gwangju in 2019, and is currently providing a care service for single-person households in Jeongwangbon-dong, Seogwipo-si and Siheung-si.In particular, through an MOU with Jeju-si, it has expanded the service to the entire Jeju Island.

Kim Tae-yong, director of digital transformation at KEPCO, who attended the MOU signing ceremony that day, said, “We hope that this service will help resolve the welfare blind spots for vulnerable single-person households across Jeju Island, including Jeju City. “We will strive to provide social safety net services to the public by discovering various public services using new digital technologies such as IoT.”
