KEPCO promotes’electric safety checkup’ for ice machine

Prevention of safety accidents caused by weakening of the ground during the sea ice season and forest fires
Construction site near power facilities-Intensive inspection of facilities in mountain areas

[국토일보 조성구 기자] KEPCO (CEO, Jong-gap Kim) conducts a’Power Field Safety Diagnosis’ for two months from February 24 (Wed) to April 30 (Fri) to prevent safety accidents during the sea ice season and to provide stable power supply.

The power safety checkup is to prevent safety accidents and power outages in advance by conducting intensive power facility inspections at times when the ground weakens due to temperature changes and wildfires due to dry weather increase.

First, check the power facilities and construction sites in the terrain where there is a concern about an accident due to the weakening of the ground during the sea ice season. Identify power facilities on topographic areas that are at risk of ground loss such as steep slopes, check for cracks or subsidence of slopes, damage or deformation of power facility structures, and check the condition of roads and sidewalks near underground facilities (manholes, power outlets, etc.).

Instantly inspect power facilities near large-scale excavation sites, and check the status of safety protection facilities, such as construction at points of concern for sediment collapse.

In addition, facility inspections are conducted in hazardous areas in preparation for the possibility of wildfires due to dryness or strong winds in spring.

First, diagnosis and reinforcement of 1,772 tracks passing through the mountain area are performed using scientific diagnosis equipment, and preliminary battery work is carried out on trees near power facilities and trees that are expected to grow rapidly in summer.

The forest fire prevention emergency situation management will be reinforced to reinforce 928 people working in the situation, and a system for sharing real-time situation information with related organizations such as the Forest Service and Fire Service will be reinforced using a system such as a forest disaster portal.

This electric power sector safety checkup is a private-public joint inspection conducted by KEPCO for safety checks in vulnerable times as the implementation of the’National Safety Checkup’ has been postponed due to Corona 19, etc.

A KEPCO official said, “We plan to make every effort to provide stable power by carrying out emergency maintenance and continuous disaster safety management reinforcement activities for the risk factors found in the diagnosis.”
