Research institute companies are companies that directly contribute more than 20% of the established capital to commercialize technologies developed by public research institutes such as government-funded research institutes and universities, and are established within special R&D zones, and the government provides corporate tax reduction benefits to these companies. do.

Since 2018, KEPCO has been designated as a research institute company establishment organization that commercializes its own technology as a venture company in the energy field, and has established 13 research institute companies to date.

Looking at the business details of the established research institute, △Power user behavior and life pattern analysis service using power data △Intelligent remote meter reading infrastructure (AMI) element technology such as integrated security chip (SoC) manufacturing △Digital twin-based augmented reality (AR) Most of them were commercialized as venture startups in the new energy industry, such as facility management through implementation.

In particular, two of the five research firms determined to be established this year will be established in the’Naju Jiangsu R&D Special Zone’.

Jiangsu Special R&D Zone is a system that designates and fosters small-scale and high-density intensive spaces as special R&D zones, centered on major technology core institutions located in regions such as universities, research institutes, and public enterprises, and has an individual rear space limit of 2㎢.

The government is fostering special R&D zones, and the local governments are fostering special R&D zones in Jiangsu, introduced through law amendment in July 2018, 6 in 2019 (Ansan, Cheongju, Pohang, Gimhae, Changwon, Jinju) and 6 in 2020. (Seoul Hongneung, Cheonan-Asan, Gunsan, Naju, Gumi, Ulsan and Ulju) have been designated as special Jiangsu districts.

In August, KEPCO plans to develop the’Jeonnam-Naju Jiangsu R&D Special Zone’, designated as the Naju Innovation City Industry-Academic Research Cluster and the Naju Innovation Industrial Complex, as the nation’s first public enterprise type Jiangsu Special Zone business model and foster it as a base for regional innovation growth.

In addition, KEPCO discussed various ways to support the creation of results as an investor in the management difficulties of venture companies in the early stages of their start-up through a meeting with the management of eight research institutes established last month from 2018 to 2019.
