Singer Kang Seong-hoon won a court case involving cancellation of a fan meeting in Taiwan.
According to Jeongsol, a law firm at the Seoul Northern District Court, on the 2nd, according to Jeongsol, the legal representative of Kang Sung-hoon, Woori Entertainment, which held a fan meeting in Taiwan on the 28th, held a ruling on a lawsuit for damages against Kang Sung-hoon. “Pay 80 million won and delay damages for this,” Kang Sung-hoon ruled in victory.
In 2018, when Kang Sung-hoon was a member of YG Entertainment, he had a conflict with Woori Entertainment, a local agency, while holding a Taiwanese fan meeting with his personal agency, Huni World (Forever 2228). At the time, Taiwanese media reported that Kang Seong-hoon caused a loss of about KRW 100 million to local companies by unilaterally canceling the Taiwan fan meeting. Woori Entertainment sued the Korean police for fraud, saying that Sung-Hoon Kang had impersonated YG Entertainment.
The judge said, “It is reasonable to assume that the cause of the cancellation of the performance in this case was canceled due to reasons attributable to the plaintiff on the Taiwan side,” and said, “Kang Sung-hoon and YG Entertainment should not conflict with entertainment activities conducted by YG Entertainment when signing an exclusive contract. I was able to do personal activities myself,” he explained.
“The document requested by the Ministry of Labor of Taiwan to be supplemented refers to a document that confirms the intention to participate in the performance by Woori Entertainment, an employer company, and Sunghoon Kang or Forever2228, an agency related to the performance in this case. YG Entertainment’s exclusive contract and consent form for personal activities, which did not exist, are difficult to see as the documents requested by the Ministry of Labor to be supplemented.”
The judge said, “I only requested the wrong documents from Kang Sung-hoon, and did not take appropriate measures,” he said.
Kang Sung-hoon’s legal representative said, “It is clear that the performance could not be performed because the visa application process was not properly processed, such as having Taiwan, the fan meeting organizer, act on behalf of a third-party company that could not be a visa applicant. I was able to win because I was convinced that the other party was wrong with the cancellation.”
Prior to this, Woori Entertainment was criminally punished for violating the Pop Culture and Arts Industry Development Act by signing a Taiwan fan meeting performance contract with Kang Sung-hun without registering as a popular culture and arts planner with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Mr. Jimo who arranged the fan meeting was Kang Sung-hoon. He received a summary order with a fine of 3 million won on charges of defamation against him.
Meanwhile, Kang Seong-hoon withdrew from Sechskies in 2018, breaking up with YG Entertainment, and continuing his own journey.
