In connection with the’Severe Accident Hearing’ by the National Assembly’s Environmental Labor Committee on the 22nd, Chairman Eun-mi Kang of the Justice Party said, “POSCO Chairman Jeong-Woo Choi and Coupang Notmon, CEO Joseph Nathan, etc., are the heads of companies that have experienced a major disaster until recently. He said, “It is the purpose of the National Assembly for the people to hold the responsibility of these representative directors at the hearing and to be promised thorough safety management measures.”

Kang Eun-mi attended the emergency countermeasure committee meeting held in the National Assembly this morning and said, “At today’s hearing, not only accidents and deaths caused by the lack of safety investment by companies, as well as POSCO’s occupational cancer and Coupang’s overwork, etc. “The structural death of workers due to the environment must be dealt with,” he said.

He said, “Ahead of this hearing, some of the business circles have sent concerns, saying that it is the’business management burden’ to have the CEOs of companies attending the hearing before the implementation of the serious disaster law. Death can be stopped. Incidents that occur in companies, including industrial accidents, must be a corporate risk and a burden on management.”

He said, “In fact, on January 8th, at least 46 workers were not able to return to their homes until last week after the Major Disaster Punishment Act passed the National Assembly plenary session.” Workers are dying from suffocation and jamming,” he said.

Chairman Kang Bidae continued, “It is a situation where we are concerned that both parties are retreating many parts of the Severe Disaster Punishment Act and not even a minimum warning on the scene,” he said. “As a hearing committee member, the cause of serious disasters constantly occurs even in large companies with sufficient safety investment capacity. “I will thoroughly disclose what this is and prove the reason for the serious disaster punishment law that is about to be implemented,” he emphasized.
