
Sisa Week = Reporter Song Ga-young Kakao strengthens ESG (environmental, social and governance) management. The ESG committee was established under the board of directors, and Kakao Chairman Kim Bum-soo takes the lead in strengthening ESG management.
Kakao held the board of directors to reinforce ESG-centered management, including enacting the corporate governance charter on the 12th, and decided to establish the’ESG committee (hereinafter referred to as the committee)’ under the board of directors. The committee is responsible for checking the direction of the company’s sustainability management strategy and managing and overseeing the performance and problems. The committee will be composed of outside directors Se-jung Choi and Sae-rom Park, including Chairman Kim.
Along with this, Kakao also enacted and promulgated the’Corporate Governance Charter’ as a cornerstone for sustainability management activities. In the corporate governance charter, the management under the supervision of the board of directors with expertise and independence in five areas, including △shareholders △board of directors △auditing body △stakeholders △management monitoring by the market, conducts responsible management and maintains sound governance. It contains the declarative meaning of establishing and developing.
In addition, it was posted on the corporate website and the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system so that ordinary shareholders can easily check it, and plans to provide it in English for overseas investors.
Prior to the launch of the committee, Kakao was to reinforce corporate social and digital responsibilities, and on the 4th, Kakao was able to protect the human rights of members and business partners, protect the information of users, and ensure freedom of expression, digital responsibility, and environmentally-oriented principles. The Declaration’ was released to the public. In July of last year, to reflect the willingness to pay attention and effort in the matters of children and adolescents, a provision for prohibited acts related to sexual protection of children and adolescents was added to the operating policy.
In 2018, it was the first Korean company to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technology and released the Kakao Algorithm Ethics Charter, which contains the norms on ethics. As the ethical controversy of’Iruda’, an AI chatbot developed by the startup Scatter Lab, has risen, the industry’s attention has been more focused on the past.
In addition to this, Kakao has better activities such as’Kakao Project 100′, a behavioral change platform to positively change the world through small achievements in daily life, and’Kakao Like Value’, a voluntary fundraising platform where anyone can directly propose, proceed and participate in fundraising. It operates various platforms to create a society and is actively working to solve social problems.
