A novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) has changed our daily lives. Untact technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation are the three keywords that support the daily life. The world’s largest IT and home appliance exhibition’CES 2021′, which overlooks the present and future of the post-corona era, opened on the 11th. At CES 2021, the technology that has successfully melted into the’Next New Normal’ changed to Corona 19 is attracting attention. Startups have emerged as the icon of CES 2021.

‘K Startup’ took this trend properly. The products and technologies of domestic startups were listed on the’CES Innovation Awards’ that were unveiled before the event began. The CES Innovation Awards are awarded to products and technologies that will lead future trends by the American Consumer Technology Association (CTA).

The activity of domestic startups was remarkable in the healthcare field, which grew rapidly in the aftermath of Corona 19. Algocare was selected as an innovation award in the field of health & wellness. Algocare is a solution that manufactures personalized nutritional supplements based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The app collects users’ medical, exercise, and life data, and manufactures nutritional supplements by adjusting the content of nutrients according to their health status. It continuously monitors data to respond to changes in the situation.

H Robotics’ non-face-to-face rehabilitation solution, Libless, is also a protagonist of the innovation award. Libless users receive non-face-to-face treatment through rehabilitation robots controlled by medical staff remotely. Oli, a lighting device developed by Rupple, also received an innovation award. It is a machine that adjusts lighting based on data in the user’s body. It coordinates the production of melatonin to help you find vitality.

VTouch, which developed the non-contact virtual touch panel, won innovation awards in the fields of smart city and computer peripherals and accessories. The V-touch virtual panel uses an AI camera to calculate the user’s gestures and operate the program without contact even at a distance of up to 1.2m. It was evaluated as well reflecting the non-face-to-face trend caused by Corona 19.

Professor Jeong Gu-min of Kookmin University’s Department of Electronics Engineering said, “In the CES 2021 Innovation Awards, technology that reflects the daily life that has changed mainly to Corona 19 has been well-regarded,” and “Korean startups understood this trend well and were able to achieve good results.”

The common feature of the protagonists who won the’CES 2021 Innovation Award’ is that they have elaborately captured the inconveniences of daily life changed by Corona 19. Hills Engineering’s autonomous defense robot’CoRobot’, which was exhibited in the’Robot’ field, is representative. Corobots can combat’irregular ground’, which is difficult for humans to use, using various robotic arms such as’V-shaped’ and’H-shaped’. It is equipped with self-driving technology and an intelligent disaster prevention system for self-defense.

Lulu Lab received an innovation award in the field of’Smart Home’ for its non-face-to-face skin care solution’Lumini’. Lumini accumulates skin data in mobile apps and recommends personalized cosmetics and beauty products. You can receive systematic skin care at home through non-face-to-face online consultations with experts.

There are also startups that have scored in the category of’sustainability’, a new topic in the global industry. SoftPV, who developed the spherical solar cell soft shell, won the innovation award in the field of’Smart Energy’. Existing flat solar cells produce the most power when vertically lit, so the amount of power produced is not constant depending on the time, location, and season. On the other hand, the bead-shaped soft shell allows efficient power generation as all light from all directions enters vertically.

Domestic start-ups have achieved great achievements at CES thanks to their continuous and active participation. According to the Korea Information and Communication Technology Industry Association (KICTA), the number of domestic startups participating in CES has steadily increased from 113 in 2019 to 260 this year. In this year (about 1950), where all participating companies gave about half of the corona 19 compared to last year, the number of domestic startups increased by 30%.

An official from the startup industry said, “A number of startups have steadily participated in CES and have built up global competitiveness.”

Domestic accelerators have helped startups participate. Samsung Electronics’ venture development program’C Lab’, which started in 2012, supported a total of 21 organizations to participate in this CES. These are 4 outstanding tasks of’C Lab Inside’, an in-house venture fostering program, and 17 startups fostered by’C Lab Outside’, a program for external companies.

A Samsung Electronics official said, “Samsung Electronics is supporting various startups to create a healthy domestic startup culture ecosystem.” “CES will continue to support startups as a golden opportunity for them to stand on the global stage.”

KOTRA opened the’Digital Korea Pavilion’, where you can see a total of 89 startups at CES held digitally. KOTRA President Kwon Pyeong-oh said, “We will use the know-how and capabilities of online marketing to promote our startups’ innovative products.”
