Korea Midland Power’s Seoul Power Headquarters received the 2020’Construction Project of the Year’ award from the’Global Energy Awards’, which boasts the world’s most prestigious energy field.

According to Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. on the 3rd, the Seoul Power Plant, the world’s first large-capacity urban underground power plant, was selected as the winner of the construction project of the year at the Global Energy Awards of S&P Global Platts, which was held online non-face-to-face last month.

An official from KOMIPO said, “The winning of the Construction Project of the Year is more meaningful in that it is a victory in competition with strong finalists such as NASA and CS Energy in Australia.”

Midbu Power’s Seoul Power Plant, which was created with its own technology in the place of Korea’s first Dangin-ri thermal power plant, is the world’s first 800 megawatt (㎿) underground complex power plant.

The power plant will be made underground and open to residents by turning the ground space into a park, while the abolished Seoul Thermal Power Plant Units 4 and 5 will be transformed into creative spaces for cultural artists.

Seoul Power Headquarters started construction in June 2013 and completed it in November 2019 after six and a half years of construction, and is currently producing power and heating heat underground.

The ground park has been completed, and the abolished power generation facility will be reborn as a new cultural and artistic space like the Pompidou Center in Paris, France.

Park Hyeong-gu, president of Jungbu Power Plant, emphasized, “I am proud to be recognized by the world for the passion and technology of Midbu Power,” and emphasized, “I will become a’clean energy leader’ leading the Korean energy industry with constant challenge and innovation.”
