[시사포커스 / 이근우 기자] Tottenham Hotspur is moving away from the European Football Federation (UEFA) Champions League.

Tottenham lost 1-2 in a match against West Ham United in the 25th round of the English Premier League in the 2020-21 season held at London Stadium in London, England on the 21st (Korean time), and remained in 9th place in the league with 36 points.

In the match that day, Tottenham allowed Michael Antonio’s opening goal in the first five minutes, and Jesse Lingard’s extra goal in the second minute increased the score. In the 9th minute, Lucas Moura made up for one goal, but no more goals were scored, losing to West Ham 1-2.

Son Heung-min played full-time after starting as a starter, but failed to acquire attack points due to bad luck in the goal, and was given a score of 6.5 from’Huscore.com’, a statistical website for European football.

Tottenham weren’t pushed back to 10th place in a match between Arsenal and Manchester City after Arsenal’s defeat, but there is a gap from 4th place, given the UEFA Champions League qualities. West Ham beat Chelsea in fourth place with 13 wins, 6 draws, 6 losses and 45 points based on their win against Tottenham.

After the game, coach Mourinho said, “We are frustrated because we have a higher potential than where we are. We should be in a higher ranking.”

“It’s getting harder to think about the top 4 spots. Playing in the UEFA Europa League will give us a chance to win the Champions qualifier. Of course it is difficult, but it is possible.”

Meanwhile, the local atmosphere in the UK is the situation where coach Mourinho is rising to the top priority.
