John Lee, CEO of Meritz Asset Management, emphasized that 2030 generations should be more bold in investing in stocks.
Representative John Lee broadcasted on the 5th of SBS’Confrontation of the Century! “How much money should I put in stocks?” by appearing in AI vs. Humans, he answered, “In their 20s and 30s, 100% of their assets should be invested in stocks,” he said. “Because stocks are the hardest-working assets.” .
John Lee explained that in the case of the United States, the proportion of stock investment is 100 minus his age. He said, “However, the current investment ratio in Korea is too low,” he said. “The ratio of stock investment in retirement pension is 2%. The reason that Korea’s preparation for retirement and the gap between rich and poor is widening is because stocks cannot be used as a medium.” .
On the other hand, the head of the Korea Financial Economy Research Institute, Kim Dong-hwan, who had a conversation, pointed out the risk of reckless stock investment and immediately refuted it. It is explained that it is difficult for ant investors to withstand crisis situations such as the IMF, the financial crisis, and Corona 19. Director Kim Dong-hwan criticized that “out of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization 20 years ago, none of the companies survived until now, except for Samsung Electronics.”
Discussions on the controversial short selling continued. Representative John Lee said, “Short selling has a net function of eliminating stock bubbles,” and said, “It is not necessarily a bad thing.”
On the other hand, director Kim Dong-hwan pointed out, “It is true that there is a net function of its own, but there are many problems with the short selling system in Korea.” It is explained that, even for individuals, improving the accessibility of short selling should be prioritized in order to properly function.
Lastly, CEO Jon Lee distrusted AI, saying, “AI was eventually created by humans and depends on the past,” regarding the artificial intelligence (AI) stock automatic investment technology that is being developed recently.
“No one can match the timing of buying and selling stock. But who made the machine. It was made by humans. Sarah, I can’t teach Mara.”
