Jo Hee-yeon “Responding to the Myanmar Incident, Gwangju Democratization Movement… Implementing instrumental training”

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Do-yeon = Seoul Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon said, “The people see it as responding to the Gwangju democratization movement,” in relation to the incident in Myanmar, where the cumulative death toll exceeded 550, and that he will provide opportunity education for Seoul students.

Seoul Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon said at a press conference held at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 6th, “We will produce and distribute’Waiting for the Spring of Myanmar’, an educational material for students to discuss about the Myanmar situation.”

◇ “The Hong Kong democratization movement has nothing to do with debate education”

Occasion education is to teach a student a subject that is not presented in the curriculum, such as a specific anniversary or a current event.

The learning materials are composed of PPT, workbook, and teacher’s commentary, and are provided in two categories: elementary to middle school, special class, and low elementary school level by level.

Superintendent Cho said, “Through instrument classes, students recognize that keeping the peace of my neighbors is the work of protecting my peace, and by understanding the multilayeredness of civic movements from a critical point of view, how individual practices will affect society as a whole. I expect to be able to learn in-depth whether or not I can give,” he explained the background.

Contrary to the Myanmar crisis, he expressed that “there is nothing that Hong Kong can’t deal with” about the lack of opportunity education in relation to the Hong Kong democratization movement. “Myanmar is the dimension of empathy education, and the Hong Kong issue is the dimension of debate education.”

Superintendent Cho said, “Myanmar is viewed by the people as responding to the’Gwangju massacre’,” he said. “Although I can fully sympathize with Hong Kong democracy, I can take it as a topic of social and political debate about’What is democracy?'” .

◇ “Encouraging faculty vaccination… There is no plan to support a budget for paying’Zoom'”

Regarding the policy to expand school attendance, which has been insisted since last year, Superintendent Cho maintained the position that “if the current spread of infection goes into the control phase, the middle-class concentration should be an exception.”

Currently, the first and second grades of elementary school, kindergarten, and high school 3 are excluded from the principle of applying the concentration of distance until the second stage.

Regarding the point that the rate of consent for the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccination of the faculty members is low at 68.3%, he said, “We will do a campaign to encourage the vaccination of faculty members.”

Superintendent Cho also suggested the distance learning platform’Newsam’ developed by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education as a paid alternative to’Zoom’, a private distance learning platform.

He said, “There is a way to pay for the use of the zoom, but there are’EBS online classes’ and’e-learning centers’ (you can use them),” he said. “It will also be an opportunity for’New Teacher’ to be used a lot.”

There are only 18 schools in use for’Sam New’, and there was an error that the sound was not played when sharing a video recently.

The Office of Education is also conducting a pilot project for the education guardianship system this year. The educational guardian system is a system that connects welfare guardians suitable for their needs and educational welfare support to students who have difficulty in normal learning.

The pilot project aims to cultivate 30 guardians, and a total budget of 300 million won is required.

◇ “After the elections related to the Korean people’s suspicion, we will review and disclose the policy”

At the conference that day, Superintendent Cho did not respond to some sensitive issues.

Regarding the suspicion of Cho Min, the daughter of former Justice Minister Cho Kook, regarding the admissions suspicion of Cho’s alma mater, Hanyoung Foreign Language High School, Superintendent Cho avoided answering, saying, “It is a sensitive matter ahead of the re-election on the 7th.”

Cho Min is under suspicion that he has made up his career as an intern at Dankook University and Gongju University and recorded it in the high school life record book.

Superintendent Cho said, “It is a sensitive issue, so I will review it after the election and tell you the policy.”

Regarding the innovation school, which is a core project, the Office of Education refuses to disclose information. “If it is reported, there will be a difficult wave of (response) from the inside. There will be an opportunity to talk about the new policy of the innovation school in the future. I saved the words “I will.”
