Jikbang, a real estate information app, declared an initial salary of 60 million won for developers and entered the competition for recruiting IT talent.

As the real estate industry is also trying to secure developers, the competition for hiring excellent IT personnel is expected to intensify.

According to the IT industry on the 26th, CEO Ahn Seong-woo announced this hiring policy at an in-house town hall meeting held online at 10 am on the day.

From this year, Jikbang decided to set the starting salary for new developers at 60 million won.

The annual salary of the employees in the office is increased by 20 million won for the development workers and 10 million won for the non-development workers.

Jikbang’s annual salary increase is rare even for large IT and game companies.

The previous day, Krafton, which proposed a lump sum increase of KRW 60 million for developers and 20 million KRW for current developers, is similar to that of Jikbang. Recently, Nexon Netmarble announced an increase of 50 million won for developers and 8 million won for employees.

Most of Korea’s leading IT companies are known to have lower starting salaries for developers.

On this day, Jikbang also announced that it would give experienced developers a year’s salary as a’signing bonus’. The limit is up to 100 million won.

This is also comparable to the fintech startup’Toss’ (company name Viva Republica), which is rumored to have the best turnover bonus among developers.

Toss raises up to 50% of his existing salary when he joins with a career and gives him a stock option worth 100 million won.

Jikbang said, “We have decided on the industry’s highest level for the digital first,” regarding the background of the unprecedented salary increase.

Jikbang provides a service that makes it easier and more convenient to check real estate sales using IT technologies such as the’Virtual Reality (VR) Home Tour’ introduced in 2018.

Big data such as real estate sales and actual transaction prices, real estate reviews and search data are also IT assets that Jikbang can use. In 2018, Jikbang Big Data Lab was also established.

In interviews, Ahn said, “I want to lead the proptech field” several times. Proptech is a compound word of property and technology. Representative Ahn is the chairman of the Korea Proptech Forum.

Jikbang also created a fund worth 20 billion won last year by establishing Breeze Investment, a venture investment company that will foster proptech startups.

A message from a Jikbang official is that this sharp increase in developer salary was also the strong will of CEO Ahn. Ahn, a graduate of the statistics department at Seoul National University, had experience in game development while doing military service special cases at game developers Mari Telecom and NCsoft.

An official from Jikbang said, “In the near future, we will introduce a function that allows you to experience real estate sales and views from real estate like 3D games.”
