Jeollanam-do (Provincial Governor Young-rok Kim) participates in the’Earth Hour Campaign’ in which the office building is turned off for 1 hour to realize a 2050 carbon neutral (Net-Zero).

Jeonnam-do announced that it plans to turn off the lights of the entire provincial government building for an hour starting at 8:30 pm on the 27th in order to urge citizens to pay attention to the importance of carbon neutrality.

The’Earth Hour Campaign’ is a global nature conservation campaign organized annually by the World Nature Fund (WWF), the world’s largest private nature conservation organization. In order to inform the seriousness of the climate change crisis and to realize a decarbonised society, a campaign is being held for an hour on the last Saturday night of every March.

The campaign started in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and now more than 18,000 landmarks, government agencies, and corporations from 188 countries around the world are participating.

Jeon-Sik Son, head of the Jeonnam-do self-governing administration, said, “As 2021 has been declared the first year of carbon neutrality, this campaign will serve as an opportunity to contemplate with the citizens of what to do for the future generation and overcoming the climate crisis. I hope to participate.”

On the 3rd, Jeonnam-do announced the ‘2021 Vision for Carbon Neutrality’ and announced plans to implement four core strategies for realizing carbon neutrality, including a carbon neutral roadmap, establishment of a greenhouse gas management center, formation of a carbon neutrality committee, and creation of a climate response fund. .
