CEO Choi responded by bowing his head to the question of Rep. Kim Woong, the power of the people, who attended the industrial accident hearing of the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee on that day and asked, “What is the reason why basic safety rules are not observed in POSCO?”

He said, “I sincerely apologize to the bereaved family members here,” he said. “The company is making efforts to invest in various facilities with the goal of putting safety first, but it is still lacking.”

He bowed his head once again and apologized, promising, “I will listen to the members’ words and reflect them in management to create a safe workplace.”

Joseph Nathan, CEO of Coupang Full Filment Service (CFS), also apologized for the late Jang Deok-jun, who died after working at the Chilgok Logistics Center in Gyeongsangbuk-do, for being judged as an industrial accident.

“We think the situation is really terrible and heartbreaking,” said Nathan, but “I thought there was a difficulty in defining the accident and its cause.”

Regarding the delay in the judgment of industrial accidents, he explained, “In the case of industrial accidents related to diseases, the opinion of a medical professional is necessary,” and “it was necessary to wait for the medical professional to make a fair decision.”
