Yang Mo Jang, who is accused of abusing and killing her 16-month adopted child, Jung In, claimed that she had never stepped on or threw her on her feet, but experts’ psychological analysis showed that the statement was less reliable.
Mr. A, a psychological analyst at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, attended the trial of Jang and her husband, Ahn Mo, held at the hearing of the 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court (Deputy Judge Lee Sang-ju) and testified in this way. Earlier, the prosecution had submitted a report on the results of an integrated psychological analysis of Jang to the court at the first trial of the adoptive parents held on January 13th. The report was presented as one of the grounds for the prosecution to change Jang’s main charge from child abuse and homicide to murder.
Mr. A, who appeared at the trial on the day, explained that there is a possibility that the statement of Mr. Jang, who denied the “deliberateness of murder,” based on the results of psychophysiological tests and behavior analysis, was false. Mr. A said, “I asked Jang if there was any intentional stepping on or throwing the child on the floor, and analyzed the physiological reaction.” “(The day of death), regarding the part where external force was applied to the child’s abdomen, Jang said,’I accidentally dropped it and dropped it and performed CPR, but there was no other external force.’ As a result of behavioral analysis, these statements were judged to be unreliable.”
The psychophysiological test is a test technique that detects differences in physiological reactions (breathing, brain waves, sweat secretion, etc.) seen when a person lies and infers the truth of a statement. Behavioral analysis is also an analysis method that detects falsehood by observing changes in verbal and nonverbal behavior that are common among lies.
As a result of the clinical psychological evaluation, there was also a testimony that Jang had a high tendency to psychopath. Clinical psychological evaluation is a technique that examines a subject’s cognitive ability, psychological state, personality characteristics, mental illness, and risk of re-offending. Mr. A said, “As a result of the evaluation, Jang has excellent cognitive ability and situational judgment, but lacks the ability to empathize with others, so we judged that he has a high tendency to pass psychopaths when combining various things.” He said, “I got 22 points, close to 25 points.
Mr. A said, “Because Jung In-yang couldn’t resist him, he would have expressed his own stress and negative emotions to the child,” he said. “There is a high possibility that he has acted abusively, such as stepping on the victim and throwing it on the floor. I can see it.” Mr. A also said, “It is difficult to trust the pain and guilt toward Jung In-yang, who is currently expressing it.”
