[광주전남일보] On the 26th, Jeondong-pyeong Yeongam-gun attended an online workshop of the Local Government Promotion Team of the Special Committee on Carbon Neutrality, which was held in person.

The 2050 Carbon Neutral Special Committee Local Government Promotion Group was formed to promote public consensus on carbon neutrality and to share local government policies.

This workshop was conducted with opinions and discussions on carbon neutrality, the role of local governments, and proposals for implementation tasks of local governments after the emergency declaration of climate change.

Carbon neutrality refers to environmental protection activities equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted from energy use in everyday life, thereby reducing real emissions to zero.

With the declaration of carbon neutrality in 2050, the government aims to reduce greenhouse gases by 50% by 2030, replacing coal power generation with renewable energy to create new markets and industries, fostering new promising industries and activating circular economy to create a low-carbon industrial ecosystem, and carbon neutrality. It is planning to foster regional customized strategies and regional-led green industries so that there are no classes or regions that are marginalized.

Yeongam-gun said, “As the 2050 carbon neutral converts the centralized energy system to a regional decentralized renewable energy system, the role of local governments is important.” I will become an army that does,” he expressed his ambition.

In the future, the Local Government Promotion Group of the Special Committee on Carbon Neutrality plans to continuously hold online workshops on March 5 and 12 to strengthen cooperation between the central and local governments, and to specify the future policy goals of the promotion group.
