Jeonbuk Hyundai, who won the 4th consecutive victory in the K-League, has appointed Kim Sang-sik (44), the current coach, as the new manager.

The Jeonbuk club announced on the 22nd that “Kim Sang-sik will be promoted to coach and will be elected as the team’s 6th command tower.”

The club explained the background, “Director Kim Sang-sik is excellent in the leadership of the team and the ability to run the game. Above all, we judged the team’s philosophy as the best person to embody the team’s philosophy better than anyone else.”

After joining Jeonbuk in 2009 and ending his career as a player, coach Kim Sang-sik, who worked as a coach from 2014, has been at Jeonbuk Hyundai for 12 years and is considered a person with a higher understanding of the team than anyone else.

From the first year he moved from Seongnam to Jeonbuk in 2009, coach Kim Sang-sik perfectly played the role of the team’s focal point as a captain, leading Jeonbuk to the first league championship.

After playing as a player until 2013, coach Kim, who assisted coach Choi Kang-hee in 2014, is praised for showing outstanding abilities in the role of a bridge between players and managers and leadership that encompasses juniors.

In particular, after coach Choi Kang-hee left for China in 2018, he appreciated the efforts he devoted to the team while maintaining the balance so that the squad will not be shaken by sudden changes.

“Jeonbuk is my team,” said Kim Sang-sik, “Jeonbuk is my team. I will devote myself to developing the team as a member of the Jeonbuk Hyundai team, not as a manager.” I will do my best to make it. I believe in the ability of the team and players called Jeonbuk.”

Meanwhile, the Jeonbuk squad will convene on January 8 and begin the 2021 season starting with winter training in the South Sea.
