60,000 yen support for restaurants that are closed after 8 p.m.
The number of daily confirmed coronavirus infections (Corona 19) in Japan surpassed 7,000 for the first time on the 7th. Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide has declared an emergency in the metropolitan area, including Tokyo.
Prime Minister Suga announced that an emergency will be issued from the 8th to the 7th of next month in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, and other metropolitan areas at the Corona Countermeasures Headquarters meeting this afternoon. It has been about eight months since the emergency was lifted in May of last year.
The Japanese government has made it possible to shorten the restaurant business hours to 8:00 p.m. (7 p.m. for liquor establishments) during an emergency. Businesses that follow this can receive a maximum of 60,000 yen (about 630,000 won) of support per day. They also asked citizens to refrain from going out after 8 pm, and ordered companies to reduce the number of people who go to work through remote work, etc., by 70%.
If the corona spread continues despite such measures, the Japanese government plans to extend the emergency period and expand the target area. Prime Minister Suga said, “I will definitely improve the situation in one month,” and “I will do my best to prepare all measures.”
