Hyundai Motor Company promised to take quick action on the controversy over the cause of the Kona electric car fire.

Hyundai Motor Company President Jae-hoon Jang said, “We are sorry for the inconvenience and concern of the Kona electric car fire,” and “I sincerely apologize” at the Ioniq 5 public online press conference held on the 23rd.

President Jang added, “We are working hard to come up with fundamental solutions for safety as soon as possible.”

At the end of last year, after the Kona electric car fires followed, Hyundai Motor Company recalled 77,000 units manufactured from September 2017 to March last year from around the world. However, there were also cases of burning fire, and controversy over the effectiveness of the recall occurred.

In recent years, there has been news that the company has been caught in the direction of replacing all the batteries in Kona electric vehicles.

“We have been actively conducting investigations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and battery manufacturers to find the cause,” said Jang. “We will go through a series of procedures such as reporting through consultations.”

He added, “I expect an announcement to be made sooner or later,” and “I will tell you through official channels such as the government.”
