Koo Ja-yeol, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, suggested to the government to ease restrictions on social distancing in order to revitalize the exhibition industry, which is struggling with the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

Chairman Koo visited the International Medical Equipment and Hospital Equipment Exhibition (KIMES 2021) held at COEX, Seoul on the 18th and listened to the opinions of exhibitors and participating companies. At this meeting, Chairman Koo said, “Exhibition facilities operate a more strict and strict quarantine system than multi-use facilities such as department stores and shopping malls. It will have an impact.” KIMES is one of the largest exhibitions in Korea to use the entire COEX hall for the first time since the outbreak of Corona 19 last year.

Along with the remarks of Chairman Koo, it was suggested to the government to hold the exhibition without limiting the number of visitors until the second phase of the martial arts reorganization plan. The martial arts side explained that the exhibition is an important means of promoting domestic demand by not only promoting new technologies and new products of companies, increasing exports by exchanging with overseas buyers, but also increasing sales of many exhibition service companies.

The reason why the Martial Arts Association made a suggestion is that there is a concern that the reorganization of the reinforced social distancing will be a negative factor in the future exhibition industry. The Central Accident Response Headquarters recently proposed a reorganization plan for the 4th stage of social distancing, which has been greatly strengthened compared to the previous plan, but in both stages 1 and 2, it has decided to limit the number of persons to one per 6㎡. This is a further strengthening of the standard compared to the previous plan, which was limited to one person per 4㎡ in the previous steps 1.5 and 2. The martial arts estimates that the number of visitors will decrease by 40% in the first stage and by more than 57% in the second stage when the new standards are confirmed. It is said that holding an exhibition becomes virtually difficult. A martial arts official said, “Excessive restrictions on the number of visitors make it difficult for visitors to enter the exhibition hall, preventing SMEs from exhibiting and marketing opportunities, and increasing the difficulties of the exhibition industry, which is the national trade infrastructure.” The facility is also in operation at all times, and since the quarantine is more stringent than the standards of the quarantine authorities, a more reasonable standard for limiting personnel is needed.”
