Hyundai Motor Company’s first next-generation electric car’Ioniq 5’has appeared. In all areas, such as design, interior space, driving performance, charging, safety, and price, there are many evaluations that the innovation that will lead the electric vehicle era can be seen. Hyundai Motor Company is planning to leap to the top brand in the global electric vehicle market with Ioniq 5.
○The interior of the living space
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the world’s first Ioniq 5 online on the 23rd. Ioniq 5 is a brand name that combines ions that generate energy and unique, which means originality, with the number 5 (quasi-medium) attached to the difference. It is a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) with a length of 4635 mm, a width of 1890 mm and a height of 1605 mm.
For the first time, the world’s best electric vehicle platform’E-GMP’ of the Hyundai Motor Group was applied to Ioniq 5. First of all, the innovation of indoor space attracts attention. Thanks to the distance between the shafts of 3000mm. The axis distance is 100mm longer than that of a large sports utility vehicle (SUV) Palisade. Considering that the overall length is 5 mm longer than the semi-medium SUV Tucson (4630 mm), it is at the level of’space innovation’. The flat floor also enhances the convenience of indoor mobility. You can get in the driver’s seat and get off the passenger seat without difficulty.

‘Universal Island’, located in the center console seat of the existing vehicle, has a wireless charging system for smartphones and a storage space with a top and bottom structure. It is designed so that it can be used by second-row passengers by moving up to 140mm backward. The first row of seats with footrests and the second row of forward movable seats allow the car to be used as a resting space, work space, and leisure space.
The exterior design also stands out. It inherits the design heritage of Hyundai Motor Company, which began in 1974 in Pony, and connected it to the future. The key is’parametric pixels’. It is the shape of pixels, which are the smallest units that make up the image, and has been applied to headlights and taillights, wheels and electric charging ports.
On the front, a clamshell-shaped’clamshell hood’ that covers the entire upper part was applied to complete the elegant image. On the side, the longest 20-inch wheel among Hyundai’s electric vehicles stands out. The side mirror was removed. Instead, you can see the rear side of the monitor from the inside through the camera.
○Can be purchased in the late 30 million won
The Ionic 5 comes in two models:’Long Range’ with 72.6 ㎾h battery and’Standard’ with 58.0 ㎾h battery. The driving distance for a single charge is 410~430km (based on domestic certification) based on long-range rear-wheel drive models. It can be charged up to 80% in 18 minutes with a 350kW super-fast charge. It can run up to 100km (based on European certification) with a 5-minute charge. Four-wheel drive can also be selected by adding a front-wheel motor to the rear-wheel basic motor. Long-range all-wheel drive reaches 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds from a standstill.

It also has the world’s first 400V and 800V multi-fast charging system. Stable charging is possible by boosting the 400V voltage supplied from the charger to 800V optimized for the vehicle system. There is also a’V2L’ function that supplies general power (220V) to the outside of the vehicle. It supplies power to home appliances, etc. in camping places.
On the 25th, Hyundai Motor Company will begin pre-contracting in Korea. Two classes of long range models are eligible. The exclusive grade is in the early 50 million won range, and the prestige grade is in the mid 50 million won range. Considering the 12 million won purchase subsidy for the government (8 million won) and local governments (4 million won in Seoul), Long Range Exclusive can be bought in the late 30 million won range. The standard model contract schedule and final price will be announced later. This year, it has set a sales target of over 26,500 units in Korea and 70,000 units globally.
○Compete with Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4
Tesla’s Model Y, which was released in Korea this month, and Volkswagen’s ID.4, are selected as the rival models of the Ionic 5.
Model Y is a popular car that has sold more than 70,000 units since it was launched in the United States early last year. The long range grade (69.99 million won) has a range of 511 km. In the performance class (79.99 million won), the time from stop to 100 km/h is 3.7 seconds and the maximum speed is 250 km/h. In particular, it is very popular with its wireless software update function. It is a variable that Tesla recently stopped selling the model Y standard grade (59.99 million won).
The Volkswagen ID.4 is an SUV applied with an electric vehicle exclusive platform (MEB) and has a driving range of 500 km. Fast charging can charge up to 80% in about 30 minutes.
