The Jeonbuk Jeongeup Police Station announced on the 7th that it will apply for an arrest warrant for A (53), a monk who set fire to Naejangsa Temple’s Daeungjeon, for arson of a prefectural building.

Mr. A is accused of sprinkling volatile substances and setting fire to Daeungjeon at around 6:30 pm on the 5th.

Mr. A called the police five minutes after the arson and reported directly that he set fire to Daeungjeon. After reporting, Mr. A stayed at the scene without escaping. He was arrested and arrested by the police as a current criminal.

In a police investigation, Mr. A softly admitted the crime, saying, “The monks who lived together made me feel sorry for them, so I drank alcohol and accidentally set fire to them.”

It is known that Mr. A had been living in Naejangsa three months ago.

This fire destroyed Daewoongjeon in Naejangsa Temple, incurring an estimated 1.7 billion won in property damage to the fire station, but no human injury.

Even in the police investigation, Mr. A softly admitted to the crime, saying,’The monks who lived together made me feel sorry for drinking and accidentally set fire’.

On this day, the Korean Buddhist Jogye Order said, “We will ensure that the highest level of disciplinary action stipulated in the Jong Constitutional Order, which is an internal discipline within the sect, will be carried out.” Said.

He added, “We plan to thoroughly investigate the cause and background of the arson incident, and once again, we express our regret for causing concern to the public and the public.”

Naejangsa Temple was founded in 636, the 37th year of King Mu of Baekje, under the name of Youngeunsa. In 1557, in the 12th year of King Myeongjong of the Joseon Dynasty, Ambassador Heimuk changed the name to Naejangsa while singing Youngeunsa.
