SBS’Chosun-gu Masa’, which caused controversy over history distortion, was eventually stopped broadcasting. In a drama set in the Joseon Dynasty, viewers exploded when a scene that empowers China’s recently controversial’Northeast Project’ appeared.

In broadcasters, the word’anti-Chinese sentiment’ also comes out. However, from the viewer’s point of view, the accumulated dissatisfaction has been maximized by meeting the point of contact called’Sageuk’ where real characters from history such as Taejong and King Sejong appear.

This is not the first time that’Chinese style’ appeared in a broadcast drama. There have already been cases of Chinese advertisements appearing in TVN dramas’Goddess Advent’ and’Vinsenzo’.

In Vincenzo, the protagonist Vincenzo (played by Song Joong-ki) eats Chinese bibimbap, while in Goddess Advent, Chinese e-commerce companies and Chinese instant hot pot advertisements appeared at bus stops and convenience stores behind the protagonist.

At the time of the broadcast, there were criticisms about “Is this China?”

In the case of Joseon Gumasa, the fact that writer Park Gye-ok signed a writing contract with Hangzhou Jaffing Pictures Co., Ltd. With the arrival of Chinese capital, it naturally led to doubts about whether it helped China’s culture’Northeast Project’. As the controversy grew, Japing Korea announced on the 25th that it would review the contract with Park.

Cultural critic Ha Jae-geun said, “As the invasion of history and culture in China, such as the recent controversy over Hanbok and Kimchi, has become blatant, the Joseon Gumasa emerged and raised controversy. Unlike PPL, which receives money and sends products, the Chinese style emerged from the drama featuring King Sejong, which worsened public sentiment.” Critic Ha predicted, “Through this incident, there may be aspects that manufacturers are careful to receive Chinese PPLs.”
